Facebook threat to Youtube in the battle for online video

It might seem surprising that Facebook ended up becoming a threat to YouTube when many of the videos you see on the website of Google come to us precisely from the social network, but in recent months Facebook has begun an offensive to gain a foothold as a platform for video posting, where until now YouTube reigned without competition. So far, because Facebook threats YouTube seriously.

In just over a year the amount of videos posted directly on Facebook has exploded. According to Fortune magazine, in February 2014, only 25% of the videos that were posted on the social network climbed there directly, the rest came from other linked sites, especially YouTube. Today, the figure is 70%.

Gradually, the social network has been improving its interface to upload and share videos, but that's not the only advantage, also has a veritable arsenal of big data to know in detail the tastes and interests of its users and their behavior. For example, Facebook recently announced a change in its algorithm to show more related videos that you expanded to view in full screen to watch in HD or activate sound, but then you gave it or not a 'Like' or comments.

YouTube is too dependent on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter to generate traffic. With both platforms working hard to improve their systems for video, audio-visual portal of Google could receive a torpedo at the waterline, and Facebook is about to arrive, if not already here.

Internet changes everything at the speed of light, and a butterfly flapping its wings in Facebook can cause a storm in YouTube, and more if instead of being a butterfly it is actually a shark. Google has tried to manage this with Google+, but the reality is different and what seemed impossible a few months ago is now a reality: Facebook not only looks ready to do battle with YouTube but it has certain advantages. Definitely it is going to be a fun fight.
