Custom ROMs reach Android Auto

We love the custom ROMs because they provide a greater variety when choosing the operating system that we like for our phone. With the arrival of Android, Android Wear and Auto, we believed that these versions for cars and wearables would be a closed environment, and fortunately we were wrong.

Android Auto is currently in few navigation systems, which are quite expensive in general terms, making Android Auto as an overrated product today. One of the main Android Auto manufacturers is Pioneer, whose range AVIC offers in equipping cars and carplay Android Auto.

In these devices, it has discovered a security hole from which you can install unofficial systems from SD card, giving users the opportunity to install custom ROMs. Using a mod of AVIC development tools, users can change the Android Auto ROM to make the most of Android in the car. These tools allow you to turn the WiFi of AVIC, to change the default launcher, Play Store to install and change the look of the interface, for now.

If you're one of the few Android Auto users with access to a AVIC, today may be your lucky day. As always we remind you that you are responsible for what happens in your device, and a navigation system unstable can cause unnecessary distractions behind the wheel.

Fallout Shelter now available on Android

If you belong to the user group that was willing to take Fallout Shelter on Android at last you're in luck: it is already available in Google Play, giving us the opportunity to lead our own shelter in the role of Vault-Tec supervisors.

Fallout 4 stands as one of the possible games of the year, and Bethesda made a presentation back in E5 2015 (first appearance at E3, of course): they put the honey on the lips, and said anything else until later this year. Luckily, they did bring us a small advance in the form of mobile game, a game that puts us as a supervisor at one of the many nuclear shelters built by Vault-Tec.

Unfortunately, Fallout Shelter has been a temporary in exclusivity for iOS, for technical reasons in the words of Bethesda. Luckily, they promised they would bring the game to Android, and have kept his word, because we already have Fallout Shelter available for Android.

The trailer for Fallout Shelter and shows us all what we will find, with the post-nuclear ambience so typical of Fallout we could enjoy all the titles, but if we summarize it: this is a game with freemium touches they give us a basic shelter, and our work is to grow and prosper. iOS version has achieved success, becoming one of the best releases made in the App Store, and now we can test it on our Android.

Firefox 40 for Android comes with more performance, security and corrections

It is not a major upgrade for Firefox, but it solves some errors that needed man hand to be solved and that also brings a couple of new features for use.

First, the update adds protection against downloads of unwanted software that can affect the security of our terminal. As in the desktop version, a warning if we agree to a potentially dangerous site will appear notifying the risks and we act according to our need.

On the other hand, if we do a long press on the buttons back and forth in the navigation menu, now history will appear previously visited pages for quick access without having to go before unnecessarily.

Regarding bug fixes, now the .jpg images are handled with lower processing power and require less memory, which improves performance and minimal autonomy of the terminal.

Desktop version is more difficult to determine which browser is more powerful, efficient and safe, but we can say that Firefox is one of the best alternatives on Android and contains features that Chrome does not have, such as extensions or Wndowis 10 support, quite and necessary and should be implemented. All changes can be found in the release notes for Firefox 40 on the official website.

Available for everyone, Hydrogen OS, the launcher of OnePlus One of China

Earlier this year OnePlus broke his agreement with CyanogenMod. OnePlus One and future phones to be release from the brand as the OnePlus 2, would include an own ROM, called Oxygen OS.

Well, the OnePlus China has a different ROM and is no Oxygen, Hydrogen otherwise. This is very similar to Oxygen ROM, but more complete in some respects. So far, only could be used by Chinese users who had a OnePlus, fortunately and thanks to the community and especially to XDA, all users can enjoy Android Hydrogen OS launcher.

First you do not expect such a complete launcher as it can be Nova. Hydrogen is functional, attractive and different, but not many options with which to tinker.

The launcher Hydrogen is stable and functional for day to day, but that does not mean you do not have the odd bug fix. Remember that the launcher is designed to be used in a Chinese terminal and physical keypad, so it is likely that years of occasional error when performing any action. However, the developer is still working on this launcher, so we may see very soon occasional update.

It is always good to get more interesting proposals like this to customize our Android terminals, except personally you prefer the pure appearance of Android. Launcher with Google Now GEL Settings Xposed Xposed Framework and requires root and can look similar to a Nexus terminal, but much more customizable.

Evolution: The fight against "Stagefright" vulnerability that affects 95% of Android

Earlier last week, it came to light the discovery of a major security flaw in Android by Zimperium, a dangerous vulnerability in fact, "Stagefright", through which anyone with minimal knowledge, and really simple, can grab remotely from a terminal in minutes, without the user realize for a second. After rising to meet this gaping security hole, which affects 95% of active Android, companies got down to work to provide solutions quickly.

So, Google has already released a patch for the Google Nexus 5 and Google Nexus 6, and more important is whether it should support its new policy, with monthly updates. Luckily, Samsung has also joined the cause by adopting the same policy, and hours later also did the same LG. Motorola, meanwhile, has announced patches against "Stagefright" for its core smartphones, but for now has not committed to update monthly.

Google has even gone a step further, and although so far the support for its Nexus was two years from now extends for another year, so it will be three years. Devices that have been confirmed to receive monthly updates are the Google Nexus 4, Google Nexus 5, Google Nexus 6, Google Nexus 9 and Google Nexus 10, which remain outside the Google Nexus 7, although they receive the patch against "Stagefright" too.

Samsung and LG, meanwhile, have refused to confirm which devices fall into this policy, although we assume that will only be the best and latest of their ranks. Motorola, which as we said, has not said anything about monthly updates itself has given the list of smartphones that send the patch against this vulnerability.

Clearly, we must always look at the positive side of things. We can say that "Stagefright" has been a before and after in the Android security, as it has served for companies, including Google, put the batteries and we offer greater protection, we deserve all users. But unfortunately, not everyone can benefit. We know that this is a business, and ultimately the interests of a company are more important than the users themselves.

Zimperium launches an app to tell us whether we are vulnerable to "Stagefright"

As you know, around 95% of Android devices are vulnerable to new malware. The vulnerability is called "Stagefright" because through it a hacker can get full control of your device. For this they need only send a video by MMS through Hangouts, and it is not even necessary that we open it. If you have enabled the option "Auto retrieve MMS" in the application, you'll be infected.

Zimperium was the company responsible for discovering this security flaw, and has been quick to send Google everything necessary to solve the problem as soon as possible, in addition to getting down to work with other companies so that they can launch updates on the shortest possible time. However, for now, only Google Nexus 5  and Google Nexus 6 may say they are completely safe. To other devices we have to continue waiting for the update to the patch, and it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S6 are as follows.

In this video, we demonstrate how easy it is to gain control of an Android device exploiting this vulnerability:

Once installed, you only have to press the yellow button that says "Begin analysis", and within seconds the results will come. Since 95% of Android is likely to be infected, it's natural to give us results in our Android as vulnerable, but be careful, because this does not necessarily mean that is affected. Only that, it is vulnerable.

The truth is that it is unclear how useful the application is, so maybe a simple question via advertising. That is, it is an application to find out what we already know. Once we have the results, we displayed a message with a contact link to Zimperium. Anyway, at least it seems that Google and other companies are ready to solve the problem. The best we can do while we wait for the patch, is taking steps to protect against vulnerability.

A user hacks the new OnePlus 2 referral system

It is not necessary that you will like the new referral system of OnePlus 2 to be enthusiastic about the company's products, but it helps. The invitations OnePlus system serves to help the company to meet the demand for its products. Also keep in mind that the fact that OnePlus sell their terminals so cheap means they can not produce terminals based on expectations due to "limited" in its budget can not adopt that strategy.

A fan of OnePlus by the name of Jake Cooper was pretty angry. After buying a OnePlus One invitation last year to a user of XDA Developers, he made sure he was ready for this year registering with time, being the 9,000. However, the company allows users to upload queued inviting their friends. As a result, Jake Cooper looked at the list shortly after registering to prove that his position had risen from 9,000 to 70,000, which probably would not get the new flagship killer.

Still, this user would not easily give up. With their knowledge of Internet discovered a flaws in the referral system that allowed him to climb until 1694 position of the list and published in a post on Medium. With its insured discovery, Cooper sent a tweet to OnePlus that has captured the attention of the company and specifically its co-founder Carl Pei.

The fact is that this year from OnePlus distributed fifty times more invitations than last year during what were the first turbulent days of OnePlus One, although invitations were deactivated during the Black Friday as a special measure.

Seen the official press images for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus

Waiting for the August 13 to come, when the terminals Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be presented in New York, and today appear different news showing details of how they will look. In this case, they have published press images to correspond to the aforementioned devices.

The place where the event will take place is the city of New York and it is expected to be in the game, at least, the two models with a big screens of 5.7 inch, that are part of the segment of phablets. Indeed, as has been leakied before, the main camera of both Android devices would have a 16-megapixel sensor.

The first image corresponds to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, the integrated model as usual stylus called the S Pen and its advanced features. As you can see in the picture we leave here before this paragraph, the appearance is very similar to the front of the Galaxy S6 which was presented at the Mobile World Congress and, therefore, we are talking about a device that would have a metallic finish with very low frames and where we see the Home button with the corresponding fingerprint. Incidentally, the pen has a new design and suggests that the way will be removed from its place would be something different from the usual (this remains to be seen).

Apart from the image of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, it has also published one that corresponds to the larger version of the device already has the Korean company in the market with curved screen on both sides. We talked about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. As can be seen in the picture, its design is identical to the one presented in February in Barcelona, but with a larger screen and, almost certainly, QHD.

The look is really attractive due to finish and, it seems, this model will not have pen (something that makes sense to continue with a particular and different way to Note 5 also seems difficult to achieve this gap due to the shape of the sides having the terminal). What seems quite clear is that Android Lollipop will come initially, and surely that the additional functionality of the side are included in this model.
